TAM ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
VISION STATEMENT
Tamalpais High School is a historic treasure that has been a source of community pride in the town of Mill Valley for almost one hundred years. Time has taken its toll on the hillside campus, however, and as a result, the community stepped forward in 2001 to preserve the landmark Craftsman buildings by authorizing a multimillion-dollar general obligation bond that has allowed renovation of the aging facilities. That was the first step.
In order to complete the vision of a fully restored campus, the Tam Alumni Association is committed to providing additional funding for projects not included in the bond. The nonprofit organization of former students is giving this support in the belief that providing an environment that reflects past excellence will inspire students and the community to maintain that tradition of excellence today.
The Tam Alumni Association’s goals start with the following projects:
Landscaping of the caliber that brought tour buses to enjoy the gardens at Tamalpais High School in days past and will bring pleasure and pride to both the school and the community in the future.
A new stage at Mead Theater to replace the original, which succumbed to dry rot in the 1970s, thereby completing the vision of the WPA design.
Restoration of Tam’s WPA artwork — Maurice Del Mué’s mural oil painting, The Golden Hills of Marin, and two large mosaic panels representing comedy and tragedy, which were features of the stage at Mead Theater.
The creation of a Tam Archives Department to preserve the pieces of Tam’s past for research and display.
Support for the replacement of two buildings, Benefield Hall and Keyser Hall, which provide essential classroom space, but are beyond repair.
